Track Tableau's Rise to the Top of Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms

The first post in this blog was the 2014 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms and Catherine suggested this visualization idea: Track each company's progress through the Magic Quadrant over the past few years using Pages animation.

Check out this viz by GOTUG member Branden Collingsworth.

How to use it: To compare Tableau against another BI platform just hold the control key down, select the platforms you want to compare, slide the page control left to 2010 and click through.

  1. Nice viz, Branden! It makes a huge difference seeing these paths.

There are a few companies besides Tableau I find interesting. Jaspersoft just made a big leap forward, as did Panorama. (I know the latter was called out by Stephen Few for having really well-designed heat maps.) Have any of you used those tools? Meanwhile the "big BI" companies like Microstrategy, IBM, Oracle, all moved down and left about the same amount. That might be Gartner recallibrating the BI rankings?

Anyway, great viz, thanks for putting together!
